San Antonio Workshop:  Impasse, Enactments and Difficult Dynamics.

Melanie Suchet, Ph.D.

November 4, 2017:  9 am to 2.00pm.

Seating is limited. Registration opening soon!

We have all had the experience of getting caught in what feels like a knot, a quagmire, a power struggle, or breakdown in the usual co-operative flow of therapeutic engagement.  This workshop will investigate these collapses in the form of impasses and enactments.  After briefly reviewing different theories, the relational approach will be articulated, especially the work of Jessica Benjamin, and her formulation of intersubjectivity.  Clinically we will focus on different kinds of impasses, including those that result from racial enactments. The audience will be asked to bring in cases, and difficult situations that we can explore together. Join us in delving more deeply into understanding how we are each implicated in the impasse, and the ways we can free the therapeutic dyad from the interpersonal struggle that ensues.

Dr. Suchet will be leading a case conference discussion after lunch. Numbers will be very limited to allow for good discussion. If you would like to attend the case conference, please sign up separately.
